Intentional Life Planning in the Time of COVID

How does one intentionally plan their life in this Time of COVID? We don’t know where this pandemic is going, when it will end, whether we or our loved ones will become sick, and what our employment and financial ramifications will be.

Some of the things my wife, Melinda, and I had planned for 2020 may need to move to 2021 of 2022 — for instance, travel. We need to self-distance and stay close to home to help our children, parents and grandparents get through this period. As a result, certain projects and other adventures may need to get bumped. That being said, some of the things we wanted to get done in 2020 are still readily doable — it’s mid-April as I write this, so there is still plenty of time left in the year.

One of the beautiful things about using Sticky Notes in your plan is they are movable. Melinda and I will join together this week in the hallway where our life plan timeline is and move four of our Sticky Notes to, probably, next year. We will most likely feel a bit of sadness, which should be honored as we pause and mourn and think about this time.

After we talk through these feelings, we may have a new goal or two to add. We still have 10 other life goals for this year, one of which is done (love those checkmarks, don’t we?!), and three of which are well underway. We’ll also look ahead on our plan at future life goals we might want to do now that we’re ensconced at home — this could be a great time to plant a new garden or start learning guitar, for example. We’ll talk about our lifestyle wishes and intentions and resiliency. Perhaps even better planning will come as a result of this.

What about you? How will you make the most of this challenging time?

Think a pandemic would happen? (OK, well, some did!) But let’s be flexible. Let’s honor nature and each other, and the reality and feelings we are experiencing. And let’s plan accordingly.

We will get our four life goals accomplished next year or the year after. We are alive!

Let’s use our time wisely and with intention.
